Currently, Yakuza fans seem to be enjoying themselves enjoying the latest Yakuza game series, entitled Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The Yakuza series is known to be unique in drastically changing the game’s fighting mechanism, which was originally beat-em-up or we were allowed to hit the opponent’s NPC freely, now it has been changed to turn-based in the style of JRPG games.
Despite these changes, the future of the Yakuza series will still have a long life. Where the developer, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, is known to be holding a myriad of surprises for this series. On December 8th, they just held a virtual event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the launch of the first Yakuza series. The event was held live through the YouTube channel Ryu ga Gotoku Studio Official.
At the virtual event hosted by Yurika Tachibana, along with the Yakuza series producers, Toshihiro Nagoshi, Daisuke Sato, and Masayoshi Yokoyama, they recalled and shared with the audience the story of the development of the Yakuza game series. Starting from the first series which was released in 2005 to new ones such as Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon.
In addition to sharing stories about the development of the Yakuza series, on the occasion of their 15th anniversary they announced that they would release a limited edition perfume for Kiryu Kazuma and Ichiban Kasuga, and then collaborate with PSO2 Japan to present two Yakuza character costumes.
Quoted from DualShockers, at the end of the event Toshihiro Nagoshi as the Chief Creative Officer of Sega announced that the latest Yakuza series was in the development stage, but unfortunately he still kept secret what series he would give to fans.
So it seems that Yakuza series fans have to be patient with an undetermined time, considering that Yakuza 7 has just been released for the whole world and is also confirmed to be heading for the Next-gen console by providing free upgrade options for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
